I've worn glasses for nearly 45 years now so you'd think I'd be fairly familiar with what goes on during an eye test. Yesterday, they threw a new gadget at me - dunno what it was called, but I had to look into it while a picture came into and out of focus - apparently it would give the optician an early idea of what my prescription should be.
Learned some new stuff about floaters and flashers - which was interesting. A retinopathy check, two years ago, discovered two haemorrhages (which sounds worse than it was). Last years retinopathy check gave me the all clear, and the optician yesterday declared that my eyes were healthy - apart from me being myopic that is :) must be all that good living I'm leading.
A new prescription was called for, and for the first time I need reading glasses as well :( so I'm a few quid poorer. Oh well, until this time next year.

Glad to hear that everything is OK with your eye tests.
ReplyDeleteI think most of us panic when we get an appointment through to see if there are signs of progression and I dread being told there is something wrong. To date nothing is but I still worry every year.
Thank you, I had a worrying time earlier this year until I realised that the anti-glare coating on my lenses was being scratched off...my vision became cloudy overnight - all because of a myriad of scratches on the lenses of my glasses :D
DeleteCarbophile please keep to demonising the Ediot and his ediots. Who gives a f*** about your new glasses.
ReplyDeleteI do :)
ReplyDeleteCarbo, did you have to do a retinopathy check at the opticians as well?
ReplyDeleteTwo years ago Vision Express told me that they had to do retinopathy test for all diabetics by Law and that we must pay for it out of our own pockets because the NHS does not cover the cost for it. I told them where to stick it and haven't been there since.
It's bad enough to have to go through that once a year and why pay for it when we get it for free anyway!
Just after diagnosis I paid for a retinal screening, mainly because a) I was concerned about the fact that I might have been a diabetic for a while before diagnosis and b) my eyesight was changing dramatically - sometimes I could see without glasses! It that was the last time, each visit to Vision Express they forget to read the patient data and ask whether I want peace of mind and each time I tell 'em...No.
DeletePleased to hear all is well with your peepers, takes some time to get used to wearing glasses, hope you dont keep misplacing them like I do with mine, hunting around for my glasses is close to an aerobics lesson, usually the cat knocked them off the table or something like that.
ReplyDeleteAll the best to you and yours
